Christian forum plea to Centre
By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI, DEC. 12. The United Christian Forum for Human Rights has
called upon the Central Government to act firmly against
continuing violence against Christians in several States,
especially Gujarat.
In a joint statement, the Moderator of the Church of South India,
Rev. K.J. Samuel, Archbishop of the Madras-Mylapore Arch Diocese,
Rev. Aruldas James, chairman of National Concerns of the National
Council of Churches in India, Dr. Rajaratnam, and the Joint
Convenor of the forum, Dr. Ebe Sunder Raj, sought protection for
Christian workers serving in north-eastern States from militant
groups. ``The recent attacks on Christians by militants expose
the false allegation that Christians are instigating militants,''
they said.
The forum, while welcoming the peace initiative in Kashmir,
demanded speedy justice in the Babri Masjid demolition case. They
opposed the new draft policy on school education, which, they
said, promoted one race, one language and one faith.
