Bankruptcy of ideas in Cong., says BJP

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, DEC. 12. The BJP kept up its offensive against Opposition parties and targeted the Congress and the Samajwadi Party for stalling the proceedings of Parliament over the Ayodhya issue for the past seven days.

The BJP found that politics of competition between these two Opposition parties and ``bankruptcy of ideas'' had resulted in the issue being raised in a manner leading to disruption of House proceedings.

The party's view was made known by the Union Home Minister, Mr. L.K. Advani, while addressing the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting chaired by the Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee.

Mr. Advani, who is among the three Ministers whose resignation was being sought by the Opposition, said the occurrences in both Houses in the past one week had affected

the image of Parliament and predicted it would prove ``counter- productive'' for the Opposition parties.

The origin of the present conflict lay in the ``competition'' and brush between the Congress and the Samajwadi Party since the latter introduced an adjournment motion on the farmers issue and the Congress raised the Ayodhya issue much before Mr. Vajpayee's statement on it, the party spokesperson, Mr. Vijay Kumar Malhotra, said.
