Dismiss DMK govt.: Elangovan
By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI, DEC. 10. The State Congress(I) today joined the AIADMK
in demanding the dismissal of the DMK government for
``encouraging Tamil extremist outfits'' and its ``soft attitude''
towards the bandit Veerappan.
The Centre should immediately sack the DMK government as the
Tamil extremist groups, the TNLF and the TNRT were ``encouraged
and emboldened'' to put up a website declaring their blatantly
secessionist intentions, the TNCC(I) president, Mr. E. V. K. S.
Elangovan said today.
In their website, the TNLF have demanded a ``Greater Tamil
Nadu'', seceding Tamil Nadu from India and Eelam from Sri Lanka
and have also appealed to the people to vote for the DMK, which
exposed the DMK government's tacit support for the Tamil
extremist groups, he charged. The Congress(I) would raise the
demand for the ouster of the DMK government in Parliament and
further action would be taken depending on the Centre's response,
Mr. Elangovan said.
Expressing ``serious misgivings'' over the DMK government's
commitment to nab Veerappan, Mr. Elangovan said, ``by this time,
he should have been captured either alive or dead.'' He also
raised doubts over whether the Karunanidhi government was
providing the required support to the Karnataka authorities'
moves to bring the bandit to book.
``I have serious doubts about the STF operations to capture
Veerappan,'' he said. Stating that the STF was giving wide
publicity to its operations, he said, the STF campaign appeared
to be a publicity gimmick. ``I feel the DMK government is not
serious about nabbing Veerappan,' he said.
Hitting out at the Tamil Nationalist Movement Leader, Mr. P.
Nedumaran, who had negotiated the release of Kannada actor, Mr.
Rajkumar, the TNCC(I) chief charged that he was providing
guidance for the Tamil extremist groups and demanded his arrest.
Mr. Nedumaran had organised a meeting to hail the LTTE on the
Heroes' day recently and posters extolling the LTTE leader
Prabhakaran had been put up here. If the police fail to remove
such pro-LTTE posters in future, the Congress(I) would resort to
``direct action'' and remove them, he said.
Mr. Elangovan, who is facing a demand for his ouster from the
TNCC(I) presidentship, asserted that he was not demanding the DMK
government's dismissal to ``save his job''.
