Red alert in U.P. districts
LUCKNOW, DEC. 10. The Uttar Pradesh Government has sounded a `red
alert' in all the sensitive districts, following a series of
communal clashes in Rae Bareli and Moradabad.
Patrolling has been intensified and senior officials were
monitoring the situation, the Director General of Police, Mr.
M.C. Dwivedi, said here today.
Claiming that the situation was under control, the DGP said the
RAF and the PAC have been deployed to prevent any untoward
incident. He said only a wall at a vacant land was demolished by
someone in Moradabad, which created tension last night. Some
explosions and firing were reported from Moradabad. No one was
injured.
He said the authorities in Aligarh and Rampur had been directed
to be alert.
The situation in Rae Bareli was normal and no untoward incident
had been reported during the past couple of days, he
added.Meanwhile, tension prevailed in the city as members of two
communities indulged in stone-throwing, arson and firing after
the news of demolition of a religious place in Galshahid area
last night.
Police said the situation was tense but under control. The Rapid
Action Force and the Provincial Armed Constabulary had been
deployed in the sensitive areas.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr. Rajnikant Mishra,
said the rival groups threw stones at each other, and later
indulged in arson and firing. The violence continued until this
morning. A few persons were injured.
