US team calls on CM
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD, DEC. 9. A six-member team representing the American
Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL) met the Chief Minister
and TDP president, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, at the NTR Memorial
Trust here on Saturday.
Making a power point presentation to the US guests on his
Government's achievements, Mr. Naidu said the policies and
programmes were driven by Vision-2020. He explained the goals
that had been set for the next two decades and how the Government
would go about achieving them.
The TDP leader said four missions had been established for
development of water resources, poverty eradication, achievement
of total literacy and generation of employment. Information
technology, bio-technology and tourism development were high on
the Government's agenda, he added.
During their hour-long interaction, the US team members asked
questions about steps taken by the State Government to control
AIDS. On the stalemate in the US Presidential elections, they
said they were convinced that in the end democracy would be
further strengthened in their country. They said contesting
elections in the US, like in other democracies in the world, was
becoming costlier.
The US team included Messrs James Jackson, Adrian Smith, Cleo
Washington, Joshua Richman, Ms. Terrie L. Suit and Ms. Denise
Bentley while Prof. C. Lakshmanna was among the TDP leaders who
attended the meeting.
