Mangalore airport opened for traffic
By Our Staff Correspondent
MANGALORE, DEC. 9. The Mangalore Airport has been opened for
normal traffic after it was closed on Friday afternoon following
a Boeing 737 blocking the runway after a tyre burst.
According to airport officials, the runway was cleared early
today as the aircraft was towed down to a parking bay where it
was inspected by the engineers who were flown in from Calicut.
The Jet Airways operated its services with other aircraft pressed
into service from another sector, according to the company
official.
The aircraft will remain in the parking bay till all the
engineering checks are completed and repairs to the nose section
undercarriage are done. The repairs will take at least three
days, officials said.
Indian Airlines also operated its flights from this airport today
in the morning and in the afternoon.
