Property tax: Filing time not to be extended

BANGALORE, DEC. 7. The last date for filing property tax returns
under the Self-assessment Scheme will not be extended beyond
December 15 under any circumstances, the Mayor, Ms. Prema
Cariappa, has said.
The response to the scheme had been good so far with Rs.95.2
crores being collected by the end of November, she told
presspersons here on Thursday.
The Mayor said that the deadline for filing returns under the
scheme would not be extended as it was time that the general
revision process was started.
In the first phase of the Self-assessment Scheme between April 1
and June 8, Rs.69.7 crores was collected from 1,89,000 property
owners. In the second phase between November 1 and November 30,
Rs.25.5 crores was collected from 30,000 owners. In addition,
Rs.12.34 crores was collected under the old scheme and Rs.15.08
crores was collected as arrears which some owners paid up
voluntarily.
From December 1 till date Rs.3 crores was collected. In all, the
Bangalore Mahanagara Palike had collected Rs.125.62 crores from
2,25,000 property owners. Another 1,60,000 owners were yet to pay
tax. The Mahanagara Palike had set a target of collecting Rs.175
crores by March next year.
`Payment clinic'
A Mahanagara Palike release has listed the following "payment
clinics" under the Self-assessment scheme
Jayanagar Shopping Complex -- Madivala and Hombegowdanagar; in
front of Basavangudi Range Office, Gandhi Bazaar; near Anjan
cinema, Magadi Road; Vijayanagar Bus Stand near Hotel Ashok; Ward
Office 36, Vijayanagar; Marenahalli Main Road, Vijayanagar.
Goodwill Apartments, Govindarajanagar; Rajajinagar Shopping
Complex; Dharani Mahila Sangha, Basaveswaranagar; Health Ward
Office, IV Block, Rajajinagar; Ramamohanpura Corporation Junior
College; R.T.Nagar Main Road; near Shanti Sagar, Domlur; North
East Zonal Office, Thimmaiah Road; East Zone Office, Mayo Hall
and Corporation Range Office, Dispensary Road.
In addition, payment would also be collected at all the 28
Revenue Range Offices and all the branches of Syndicate Bank,
Dena Bank and Vijaya Bank, the release said.
