Woman commits suicide

BANGALORE, DEC. 7. A 25-year-old woman, who was allegedly tortured by her husband for dowry, committed suicide by hanging herself at her house in Cottonpet Police limits in the City on Wednesday.

Police said that Mamatha, a native of Amruthur in Kunigal taluk of Tumkur District, was married to Somasundaram, about four years ago.

On learning that Mamatha, who was alone at home, had committed suicide, police broke open the doors of her house at Naragundadevara Galli in Cottonpet on Thursday morning and informed her relatives at Amruthur.

According to police, Mamatha's father made a statement before the Sub-divisional Magistrate, Mr. Rudrappa, that his daughter was harassed by her husband for dowry.

Cottonpet Police, who have registered a case of "dowry death," are investigating.

Theft

Thieves broke into the Sacred Heart Church in Ashkonagar Police limits on Wednesday and made away with the cash that was in the "hundi."

Mr. Moses of the church has lodged a complaint with police in this regard. It is said that nearly Rs.10,000 was in the "hundi."

Stolen

Gold ornaments and cash, together worth Rs.50,000 were burgled from the house of Dr. Asha in HBR Layout on Wednesday by thieves who entered the house by breaking open the doors. Hennur Police have registered a case.
