By Our Staff Reporter
MADURAI, DEC. 7. The CBI today filed a chargesheet in the CBI
Special court on two persons, including a bank manager, for
misappropriating NRI deposits to the tune of Rs. 5 crores.
The Bank Securities and Fraud Cell (BSFC) of the CBI, Bangalore,
was entrusted with the investigation of a fraud committed on NRI
deposit holders at the Rockfort City branch of a nationalised
bank at Tiruchi during 1997-98. The CBI investigation, conducted
as three cases, had revealed that nearly Rs. 5 crores from
various NRI deposits had been siphoned off by fabricating false
documents. The CBI said former manager of the bank, Mr.
Gopalasamy, in connivance with a few others had committed the
crime.
Meanwhile, the CBI team led by the Inspector, BSFC, Mr. P.M.
Satheesh, had filed a chargesheet in one of the three cases, in
which Rs. 40 lakhs were misappropriated. The chargesheet in the
other two are expected to be filed on Monday.
