BJP stir peaceful
By Our Staff Correspondent
JAIPUR, DEC. 4. A daylong Statewide ``Chakka Jam'' (Stop Wheel)
agitation organised by the Opposition BJP on all national and
State highways in Rajasthan passed off peacefully today.
There were a few minor incidents of altercation between the BJP
activists and police officials in Bikaner and Jaipur.
The agitation was organised by the State unit of BJP to protest
against the Congress(I)-led Government's alleged failure to deal
with the drought situation and the ``anti-people'' decisions
taken during its two- year rule. The State Government had pressed
additional police forces, including the Rajasthan Armed
Constabulary (RAC), into service in all districts as a
precautionary measure.
Bus services of Rajasthan Roadways were partially affected, while
trucks were stopped at a number of places. However, private
vehicles were allowed to move, though a few cases of arguments
between drivers and BJP party workers were reported from several
places. The railway services were completely kept out of the
agitation.
