Gujral discharged

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, DEC. 4. The former Prime Minister, Mr. Inder Kumar Gujral, who was admitted to the Escorts Heart Institute here on Sunday afternoon, was discharged this evening. Tests revealed he had suffered a muscular pain in the chest due to ``over- exertion''.

According to Dr. Nishit Chandra, one of the doctors who accompanied Mr. Gujral on the plane which flew him from Nepal where he had gone to attend a conference, ``he is perfectly fine and has been advised complete rest''.

Dr. Nishit said various tests including an angiography were done today. ``The chest pain that he felt yesterday is only a muscular pain. He had probably over-stressed himself and since his is a case of bronchial asthma, he probably developed chest pain.''

According to the cardiologist, medication was started right in Nepal, where Escorts has a satellite centre and its doctors are posted. ``Throughout the journey, the airplane functioned as an ICU. We have a very good air-ambulance and Mr. Gujral was provided the best medicare on flight.''

Dr. Naresh Trehan, Executive Director of the Escorts Heart Institute, said Mr. Gujral was doing fine and a thorough check-up was done today. ``Any heart problem is ruled out,'' he said.

Incidentally, Mr. Gujral turned 82 today.
