Splash of hues

A burst of colour over the white sheets of paper. Splashes of reds, yellows and greens transforming into figures - line of caparisoned elephants, green fields and pastures, people, dogs, and cars.

The Hindu-Young World On-the-Spot painting competition was conducted at St. Albert's College Auditorium in Kochi on November 19.

The participants had six topics to choose from - "A Temple View", "A Vendour of Toys", "Angry Teacher", "Chaos at the Traffic Signal", "A Town in Flood", and "Dog Show".

The first prize in the senior category went to a lively portrayal of an "Angry Teacher", by Sandip K.Luis, a student of Std IX from SRV GVHSS, Ernakulam. The second and third prizes went to Vani Jayaram (Sobhana English Medium High School, Kothamangalam) and Arun Kumar (Assissi Vidyanikethan Public School, Kakkanad).

Nina Mary Charles, a student of Std IV from Kochi Refineries School, Ambalamugal, won the first prize among the juniors. The second and third went to Varghese Mathew (Bhavan's Vidyamandir, Elamakkara) and Gayatri Udayan (Marian Junior College, Vadavathoor, Kottayam).

The shield for the best school and best art teacher went to Bharathiya Vidyamandir, Elamakkara. Around 250 students from schools in Ernakulam and Kottayam districts participated in the competition.

Prizes were distributed by Tripunithura Lalitha, principal of Govt. RLV College, Tripunithura, the chief guest. A two-day exhibition of the works were conducted at the Albert's Auditorium.
