8 Al-Umma activists back in jail

SALEM, DEC. 1.Eight Al-Umma activists, who were on a hunger- strike in the Salem Central Prison for the past few days, were admitted to the Mohan Kumaramangalam Government Hospital here on Thursday night.

In the hospital too they continued to shun food, demanding that they be shifted to Coimbatore Prison. However, on the intervention of the Commissioner of Police, Mr. V. Jeganathan, and the Jail Superintendent, Mr. Balan Alagirisamy, on Friday they gave up their fast.

Later, upon their discharge from hospital, they were taken back to the Salem prison. The names of the activists who are named in the serial blasts case were given as: Sahul Hamid (25), Kundu Jagir (24), Abuthagir (25), Aarun (25), Samsuddin (26), Sarfuddin (26), Sudhirbabu (22) and Akbar Ali (23).
