Postal unions to go ahead with strike plan

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, NOV. 25. A review meeting of the three postal federations has decided to go ahead with the plan to go on strike from December 5 as there is ``no visible sign of settlement of demands'' despite meetings with senior officials and the Union Communications Minister.

Observers anticipate some developments in the coming days. Keen to avoid an agitation during the parliamentary session, the Government may offer some options to the federations, particularly on their main demand for regularising the services of three lakh extra-departmental employees. Any Government offer will have to be vetted by a Group of Ministers, which is evaluating a report submitted by an inter-departmental committee of senior officials.
