Election Dept. to sort out problems

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, NOV. 11. The State Election Department says it is trying to sort out all the complaints being received in connection with the special electoral rolls revision drive.

Enough forms have been printed and circulated, it claims. The following are the details: Form No.6 (for inclusion of names and shifting from one constituency to another) 62 lakhs in Tamil and 5 lakhs in English have been printed.

Form No.7 (for objections and deletion of names) 10.30 lakhs forms in Tamil and 1 lakh in English have been printed; And Form No 8 (for correction of any data in the electoral rolls like address and transposition within the same constituency) 10.30 lakhs in Tamil and 1 lakh in English have been printed.

Meanwhile, the Chennai Corporation said it had received 25868 applications at the centres in the city. Reserve staff had been deployed at a few centres due to late arrival of those posted there. However, officials privately said the lack of orientation of the staff had affected the exercise.

To give additional thrust to the special campaign, banners indicating the locations are being put up. A control Room- 538 3695 and 538 4510 had been set-up at Ripon Buildings to attend to complaints, the Corporation Commissioner, Dr. J. Radhakrishnan said.

Use of TV and enlisting of NGOs would be done to improve the efficiency of the revision process in the second part to be taken up later this month.
