Minister unveils developmental works

CHENNAI, OCT. 21. Various developmental schemes carried out at a
total cost of nearly Rs. 1 crore in Harbour and Seven Wells areas
were inaugurated on Friday by the Education Minister, Mr. K.
Anbazhagan.
He declared open two community halls at Third Line Beach and St.
Xavier Street, a dispensary cum ward office building at Mint
Street and commissioned a scan facility in a Corporation health
post at Appu Maistry Street.
Three of the four projects were funded from the Minister's MLA
Local Area Development Fund and the Scan was purchased from the
fund allocated from the Councillor's Ward Development Fund.
The community hall at St. Xavier Street was constructed at a
total cost of Rs. 54.26 lakhs while Rs. 30 lakhs was allocated
for the one at Third Line Beach. The total expenditure for
construction of the building at Mint Street to house a
Corporation dispensary and the ward office was Rs. 12.28 lakhs.
The scan machine was commissioned at a cost of Rs. 3.5 lakhs.
Later, speaking at a function, the Minister said industrial
investment in the State had increased over the years and about 40
per cent of the investment came from the automobile industry.
Keeping this in mind, the Government was contemplating an
Expressway between Tambaram and Harbour.
The Mayor Mr. M. K. Stalin said that the Corporation had been
concentrating on improvement of 1,900 km interior roads and other
roads at a total cost of Rs. 75 crores. The civic body has
provided computers to the Corporation schools at a total cost of
Rs. 5 crores, and Rs. 3 crores have been allocated for providing
basic amenities.
Dr. J. Radhakrishnan, Chennai Corporation Commissioner, Mr. N.
Mallikarjunaiah, Superintendent Engineer (Buildings), and Mr. C.
Kuppusamy, MP, spoke.
