Prasada questions party poll schedule
NEW DELHI, OCT. 21. The senior Congress leader, Mr. Jitendra
Prasada, who has virtually attacked the leadership on the way the
party was being run, today questioned the schedule for the party
president's election asking how any election could take place in
the absence of a voters list.
Mr. Prasada, who has hinted on taking Ms. Sonia Gandhi, in the
election, also justified the issues raised by him in a letter to
party workers saying that he had been raising them for the last
one year along with Rajesh Pilot.
The notification for the Congress president's election was being
issued on October 25 while the chairman of the party's central
election authority, Mr. Ram Niwas Mirdha, said that the voters
list would be available the same day. The election is scheduled
on November 11.
``How can one start the election process when voters are not
there?'', Mr. Prasada asked.
Skirting queries whether he would be a candidate, he said how
could one say whether there would be a consensus or otherwise
when the voters list itself was not not available.
``Every party delegate can contest and there are thousands of
delegates'', he said replying to questions in this regard.
Mr. Prasada stayed away from a rally addressed by Ms. Sonia
Gandhi in Kanpur today. He said though he had been invited for
the rally, he had a meeting of the Parliamentary assurances
committee.
