Simple elegance

THE CENTRAL Cottage Industries Emporium's special festive wear sale ``Shringar'', opened at its premises, Temple Towers, 672, Anna Salai, Nandanam, on October 13.

The collection ranges from block printed designer salwar kurta ensembles to Orissa's distinctive ikat saris, cotton saris from Rasipuram and Mangalgiri, Bengal cottons and Maheshwaris. The block printed designs range from the simple to the complex and the superimposed.

Gujarat's mirror work embroidery and impeccable styling give a sense of ethnic couture to the salwar kurta ensembles. The ``Shringar'' collection comprises Orissa's exquisitely woven warp ikat saris in cotton and tussar with typical borders and pallus with motifs of birds, animals, flowers and leaves.

A choice of silver jewellery, artefacts and bric-a-brac is also available.Meanwhile, `Poompuhar's sari exhibition, which is on at Rajaji Hall, showcases some moderately priced saris.

Also available are Andhra's lovely pattur saris, Mysore crepes and silks and rich Conjeevarams.

At a reasonable price range are Lucknow's chikankari saris, pretty semi- gadhwals, Venkatagiris and wax printed Madurai `sungudis'.

Both CCIE's `Shringar' and Poompuhar's sari exhibition, conclude on October 25.
