TNLA activist moved to Tiruchi prison
By Our Special Correspondent
SALEM, OCT. 19. Ponnivalavan, a cadre of the Tamil National
Liberation Army (TNLA), was shifted from the Salem Central Prison
to Tiruchi Central Prison on Wednesday night amidst tight
security. He is one of the five Tamil extremists whose release
has been sought by the forest brigand, Veerappan, in exchange for
the hostages.
Jail sources said that since Ponnivalavan belonged to
Sethiathope, near Chidambaram, he had asked to be shifted to the
Tiruchi prison. Some cadres of the outfit are detained here. The
sources said the shifting was effected as a routine department
action, and not on any directive from the State Government. It is
said that a number of cases are pending against Ponnivalavan for
offences committed at places such as Jayamkondan, Dharmapuri and
Tuticorin.
