Pranab criticises Advani's remarks
CALCUTTA, OCT 19. The Congress Working Committee member, Mr.
Pranab Mukherjee, today criticised Home Minister, Mr. L.K.
Advani, for comparing the RSS with Mahatma Gandhi and described
it as ``highly objectionable.''
``It is the height of indignity to compare Gandhi with the RSS'',
he said.
The State Congress chief, who led a day-long satyagraha here in
protest against various policies of the Vajpayee Government and
``terror unleashed by the CPI-M'', told a press conference that
it was ``very unfortunate'' that a seasoned politician like Mr.
Advani had made such a comparison.
There could also not be any comparison between Jawaharlal Nehru
and Mr. A.B. Vajpayee, he said.
Mr. Mukherjee said it was objectionable that the Minister
attended the RSS convention and gave a `certificate' to the
organisation after the statement of the `RSS sarsanghchalak, Mr.
K.S. Sudarshan calling for Indianisation of Christians and asking
Muslims to accept their Indian heritage.
On disinvestment of PSUs, the Congress leader criticised the NDA
Government for resorting to ``indiscriminate disinvestment'' and
said they did not seek the people's mandate for privatising
profit-making PSUs and banks. ``In fact, the Government is
squandering away the people's money'', he said.
