By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, Oct.16. A day-long training programme for about 100 Hyderabad district resource persons under the Yuvashakthi Programme to impart functional literacy to about 37,000 members of self-help groups by January 14, commenced at the Collectorate here on Monday.

Mr. P.V. Subba Reddy, Mr. Krishna Reddy and Ms. Rama Devi, faculty members of the State Literacy Mission, conducted an orientation programme in the form of do's and dont's for the trainers. Mr. G. Janardhan Reddy, District Youth Welfare Officer, chaired the inaugural session.

Mr. Subba Reddy emphasised the need for the volunteers to convince their trainees about the positive impact of education on life as well as developing positive thinking.

Mr. Krishna Reddy said important factors of age, experience and profession should be kept in mind while imparting adult literacy. He said a person could achieve functional literacy after completing 180 instructional hours.

Ms. Rama Devi underlined the use of discussion and pictures as the means for achieving better communication with the learners. She advised the volunteers to know the learners closely by devoting time to problems faced by their families.
