Ex-CBI official to launch forum

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, OCT. 16. The former CBI officer and Samata Party member, Mr. N.K. Singh, along with his party MP, Mr. Brahmanand Mandal, has decided to float a Forum to arouse consciousness among the people of Bihar on corruption, criminalisation and casteism in politics.

Mr. Singh, who is a member of the party's National Executive, told The Hindu today that the formation of the Forum, `Loktantrik Vihar Manch' would be announced shortly and an organisational shape would be given in due course.

While maintaining that the Forum was an effort to bring people of the State together on the three issues, Mr. Singh said the idea was to encourage participation of all the people concerned. The effort should not to be confused with the move by all Bihar MPs to come together on a single platform for the development of the State following the creation of the Jharkhand State. ``'We believe that democratic rights of the people has been under threat due to corruption, criminalisation and politics of violence and caste politics,'' he said.

Mr. Singh, who contested the 1998 Lok Sabha elections from Madhepura in the State, said while all political parties talked about ideology, few steps were being taken either to bring about electoral reforms banning those charged by a court of law from contesting polls.
