PM congratulates Chandrika

NEW DELHI, OCT. 16. The Prime Minister, Mr. A.B. Vajpayee, has congratulated the Sri Lankan President, Ms. Chandrika Kumaratunga, on the performance of her party, the Peoples' Alliance, in the recent Parliamentary elections in the Island Nation.

In a message to Ms. Chandrika, the Prime Minister, who is recuperating in Mumbai after a knee surgery, felicitated the Sri Lankan people on their commitment to democratic values in difficult circumstances.

Stating that India and Sri Lanka enjoyed close relations rooted in history with shared aspirations, Mr. Vajpayee reiterated New Delhi's commitment to diversifying and intensifying bilateral ties with Colombo.
