Cong. flays Advani for attending RSS rally
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, OCT. 16. The Congress (I) today asked the Union Home
Minister, Mr. L.K. Advani, to clarify whether he endorsed the
views of the RSS chief, Mr. K. Sudershan. The RSS chief had, at a
rally in Agra on Sunday which was attended by, among others, Mr.
Advani, accused Christian missionaries of using the north-eastern
States to ``establish military bases to work against India.''
The party also took the Home Minister to task for his presence at
a rally in which the RSS chief once again asked the Christians
and the Muslims to join the cultural mainstream by accepting
their Hindu ancestry. ``The Home Minister is expected to ensure
the safety and security of all citizens, particularly the
minorities and weaker sections and his presence at the RSS rally
is serious since all the pronouncements were made in his
presence, '' the Congress (I) spokesman, Mr. Anand Sharma, said.
Taking strong exception to the statements made by Mr. Sudershan,
the spokesman said the RSS chief's ``utterances would heighten
the prevailing sense of insecurity among the minorities.'' He
said the statements were calculated to create ``distrust and
disaffection among different communities.''
Mr. Sharma said the speeches made at the Mahashivir at Agra would
``embolden the fanatics within the Sangh Parivar who have been
targeting the Christians.'' He alleged that the overall aim of
the Sangh Parivar was to foment trouble, create tension and
disturb the peace.''
