100 members back Bibi Jagir Kaur

AMRITSAR, Oct 13

About 100 members of Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC),owing allegiance to ruling Shiromani Akali dal (SAD),today expressed full confidence in the leadership of their President Bibi Jagir Kaur, against whom the CBI has registered a case in connection with the mysterious death of her daughter Harpreet Kaur.

In a statement, released through personal assistant to the SGPC President,Mr.Harjit Singh, the members described the allegation as a 'mudslinging drive' launched by Bibi Jagir Kaur's opponents following the CBI inquiry in connection with the 'natural' death of her daughter, with the intention of maligning her political career.

Mr.Harjit Singh claimed these members have expressed solidarity with Bibi Jagir Kaur in their messages sent to him and SGPC secretary, Mr.Gurbachan Singh Bachan. He said these messages had been sent to Punjab Chief Minister, Mr.Parkash Singh Badal to make him aware of the feelings of the majority of the members.

Meanwhile Mr.Harjit Singh told PTI in Chandigarh that Bibi Jagir Kaur would take part in a Nagar Kirtan to be taken out at Amritsar tomorrow in connection with the birth anniversary of Guru Ram Dass.

He said the Bibi had no plans of resigning as SGPC president as she had not been convicted by any court. Nor did she planned to surrender, he said.
