Fatal acid attack on paramour
By Our Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI, OCT.4. Enraged at his paramour's betrayal, a resident
of Tilak Nagar allegedly threw acid on her on Monday. Barely 24
hours later, twenty seven-year-old Darpana died of burns at the
Deen Dayal Hospital. While the accused Parivar Singh alias kukoo
is absconding, his mother has been arrested for destruction of
evidence.
According to the police, Darpana, a maid working at Parivar's
home -- both married and separated from their spouse -- were
having an affair. Darpana used to help Parivar with his acid and
Pheneol manufacturing factory that he ran from his P-56, Sant
Garh, Tilak Vihar house. While Parivar's wife had left him a year
ago, Darpana separated from her husband about the same time and
has been living with Parivar since then.
The latter, apparently, found Darpana with his younger brother
in a compromising position on Monday morning. Enraged at her
betrayal, he threw acid on her, burning the lower part of body.
Police said the West district control room received a call at
around 9-25 a.m about a quarrel in the Sant Garh area. On
reaching the first floor terrace of WZ-56, which is owned by
Parivar's mother Chiranjeet Singh, they found Darpana lying
unconscious on a cot. On examination, she was found to be
suffering from burns and bruises on her face.
On being questioned, Chiranjeet is reported to have misled the
police by saying it was a routine fight between Parivar and his
wife. However, Darpana's statement to the police later
contradicted this. Darpana revealed that she had been staying
with Parivar for some time. ``Her statement revealed that Parivar
would often beat her up on minuscule matters. On such occasions,
she would go to Chiranjeet's house, which is nearby,'' a senior
West district official said.
According to the police, Darpana had come to Delhi along with her
husband and two daughters. The two soon developed differences and
decided to part ways. While her husband took their 11-year-old
daughter with him, Darpana kept her younger daughter, aged nine.
Based on her statement, police have arrested Chiranjeet for
misleading the police and destruction of evidence. Parivar,
however, is absconding. A case has been registered under sections
302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code against Parivar and
Chiranjeet at the Tilak Nagar police station.
