Basu's plea to PM
CALCUTTA, OCT. 4. The West Bengal Chief Minister, Mr. Jyoti Basu,
has urged the Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, to pass
an ordinance to immediately set up the national centre for
calamity management (NCCM). Expressing surprise over the
inordinate delay, Mr. Basu said despite the recommendations of
the 11th Finance Commission and submission of the action taken
report, the calamity management body had not been set up. The
NCCM would not only benefit West Bengal but also other States.
