Avoid squabbles, CM tells partymen
By Our Staff Reporter
TUTICORIN, OCT. 2. The Chief Minister and DMK president, Mr. M.
Karunanidhi, even while launching a scathing attack against the
Opposition, particularly the Left outfits, which had flayed his
party for its alliance with the BJP, appealed to DMK activists to
avoid internal squabbles and concentrate on strengthening the
organisation.
At a public meeting shortly after inaugurating a building
constructed by the party's district unit here on Sunday night, he
said though the DMK was continuing its journey along the path
laid down by the late leaders, E.V. Ramasamy and C.N. Annadurai,
some Opposition parties had been trying to confuse the people,
particularly the minorities, by spreading the theory that it had
jumped on the communal bandwagon.
Though parties including the TMC, CPI and CPI(M) had been
claiming that they were part of the so-called secular front,
posters bearing objectionable slogans which hurt the feelings of
the minorities found a place at a recent meet organised by the
Dravidar Kazhagam in Salem ostensibly to promote communal
harmony, he alleged.
He accused the Communist Parties of having aligned with the then
Jana Sangh in 1967 and 1977 and later with the BJP in 1989
despite the ``tall claims'' about their secular credentials.
Mr.Karunanidhi pulled up his party colleague and PWD Minister,
Mr. Durai Murugan, for the latter's remark against the TMC
president, Mr. G.K. Moopanar, at the meeting. Though the TMC had
snapped its friendship with the DMK, a time would come when the
former might realise its mistake, he said. He flayed the TMC for
forging ties with the AIADMK.
The party which had been urging the Government not to delay legal
steps against the former Chief Minister, Ms. Jayalalitha, had now
developed ``tolerance'' towards corruption. He would leave the
mystery behind the change in the TMC's attitude on this count to
people's imagination, Mr. Karunanidhi said.
Among others, Ministers, Mr. Arcot. N. Veerasamy, Mr. Durai
Murugan, Mr. Aladi Aruna, Mr. T. Krishnan, Mr. V. Mullaivendan,
Mr. A. Rahman Khan and Mrs. Jenifer Chandran, addressed the
meeting.
