3 killed in Midnapore clash

MIDNAPORE, OCT. 2. At least three people were killed and 15 injured in clashes between the CPI(M) and the Trinamool Congress supporters in ten villlages under Patashpur police station today. According to police, Mr. Kanai Maiti, a CPI(M) supporter, was gunned down in Barat village while Jayanta Das and Bablu Ojha, both Trinamool supporters, were killed in Lalua village. More than fifty houses were set on fire and about 500 looted.

Clashes occured when CPI(M) supporters who were earlier driven out of the villages tried to return and were prevented by Trinamool activists. Eastern Fronter Rifles personnel have been posted in the area since this evening.
