Suryanelli case: two more convicts get bail

KOCHI, SEPT. 28. The Kerala High Court on Thursday suspended the
sentence of two more convicts in the Suryanelli rape case and
granted them bail.
Mr. Justice R. Rajendra Babu while suspending the sentence
directed that accused No. 6 and 39 - Unnikrishnan of Ponkunnam
and Vilasini of Kattappana - be released on bail on their
executing a bond for Rs. 25,000 and 10,000 respectively with two
solvent sureties to the like amount.
While the Kottayam Special Court sentenced the sixth accused to
13 years rigorous imprisonment, the accused No. 39 got four year
RI.
The Judge directed the sixth accused to deposit a part of the
fine imposed by the Special Court or Rs.10,000 whichever was
less.
As many as 35 persons were convicted in the rape case. The court
had earlier suspended the sentence of RI varying from nine to 13
years awarded to other 32 accused persons.
