Unprecedented security for Brahmotsavam

TIRUMALA, SEPT. 28. Unprecedented security arrangements are being
made for the annual Brahmotsavam of Lord Venkateswara, at
Tirumala, scheduled to commence from Saturday.
For the first time, police personnel from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka
and Maharashtra are being commissioned. According to the
additional Superintendent of Police, Mr. C. Ravichandra, this was
being done to check the movements of criminals from other States.
The district police has also requested the State Government to
depute personnel from other districts.
Two DSPs, 10 inspectors, 60 sub-inspectors, 127 head constables,
620 constables apart from six platoons of Armed Reserve Police
headed by another DSP and two inspectors shall provide security
for the nine-day festival.
Mr. Ravichandra said he would personally camp at Tirumala for the
entire period and work under the direct supervision of the DSP,
Mr. Ram Narayan.
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) on its own has a 400-
strong separate Vigilance and Security Cell headed by an officer
of the rank of S.P., which shall assist the police in maintaining
law and order and help regulate the ``flow of pilgrims.''
