ESC to set up office in city

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, SEPT. 23. The Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC), the autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Information and Technology, will set up an office in Chennai.

The new office will operate from TIDEL Park, Taramani, and will benefit the medium and small software companies in the South. The Council has taken possession of the space at TIDEL and the office is expected to be operational from next month.

Mr. D. K. Sareen, Executive Director, ESC, said the Council is launching a series of road shows in different parts of the world to promote Indian IT products and services. The ESC was the ideal export agency for the medium and small companies, which could not afford to run offices abroad.

In India, the Council was organising a ``mega event'' called ``Indiasoft 2001,'' which would comprise software exposition and conferences. The event was being jointly sponsored by the Ministries of IT, Commerce and Industry. The objective of the event would be to leverage Indian IT capabilities to global strategic alliances. It would focus on software services, IT- enabled services, IT convergence, e-business, IT manpower and IT financing, said Mr. S. Ramasundaram, Joint Secretary, Department of Commerce.

Indiasoft would bring together business delegations from 20 countries who were interested in IT-outsourcing from Indian software companies. It would also have leading companies from India. The event would be the showcase of Indian software capabilities, especially that of small and medium companies.

The Council had made extra efforts to ensure the presence of leading venture capitalists who would be ready for angel funding of innovative ideas. The event would have three global level conferences on contemporary themes. Renowned global IT experts would also participate in the event.

Mr. Sareen and Mr. Ramasundaram were in the city to promote Indiasoft and to create awareness about the Council's operations.
