Chitranjali to be upgraded

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, SEP. 2. The Government would consider setting up a full-fledged film and video park at the Chitranjali Complex here.

The objective was to attract investments in the areas and facilitate transfer of the entire production of Malayalam films including processing to Kerala.

A meeting, presided over by the Minister for Culture, Mr. T. K. Ramakrishnan, here on Saturday discussed the proposals submitted by film maker, Mr. Adoor Gopalakrishnan, in this regard.

The Government would also consider reduction of entertainment tax on films produced entirely in Kerala as desired by the meeting. The Film Development Corporation would consider exhibition of award winning films for at least 25 days in its theaters.

The Government would set up a committee for considering the revision of film subsidies. The options for exemption of entertainment tax and increased exemption of tax for award winning films would also be considered.

The State Film Akademy would submit proposals on forming a film fund for encouraging and distributing good films and helping debutantes. The chairman of the Akademy and the Secretary (Culture) would examine the scope for exhibiting good films regularly at the proposed multipurpose cultural complex.

The Akademy chairman, Mr. Shaji N. Karun, Chairman of the State Film Development Corporation, Mr. P. Govinda Pillai, Managing Director, Mr. Siva Prasad, and the Secretary (Culture), Mr. T. Balakrishnan, attended the meeting.
