CPI(ML) workers arrested
PATNA, SEPT. 2. More than 1,100 CPI(ML) supporters were arrested
today during the State-wide chakka jam, called by the Left party
to protest against a series of police firings claiming 11 lives
in Bihar during the past one week.
The Home Secretary, Mr. U. N. Panjiar, said over 1,100 CPI(ML)
activists were taken into custody when they tried to enforce the
call in the State. They tried to block roads in Patna, Bhojpur,
Jehanabad, Nawada, Samastipur, Siwan and Darbhanga.
The party spokesman, Mr. Prabha Kumar, claimed that several
CPI(ML) activists were injured when police lathicharged them at
Kursela in Katihar. According to district reports, the call for
chakka jam had palpable impact in north and central districts,
but it had failed to evoke response in Palamu, Garhwa and other
