Devoid of truth
Sir, - The letter ``Sectarian attitude'' (The Hindu, August 28)
leaves a bad taste in the mouth after reading. It is unfortunate
that the letter is devoid of truth and only betrays the writer's
communal bias and ignorance about what Muslim leaders in India
have said time and again about the acts of terrorism indulged in
by the militants in Kashmir.
Both in and outside Parliament, Muslim leaders have condemned
unequivocally such deplorable acts in the name of Jehad. Recently
in a discussion on the situation in Kashmir telecast by Star TV,
Mr. G. M. Banatwala, president of IUML and MP, was very vehement
in condemning violence in Kashmir and advocating a very strong
response from us to such dastardly acts.
Statistically speaking, the Muslims, who form the majority in
Kashmir, are the worst sufferers and victims of such atrocities
not to speak of the loss in terms of life and limb and economic
recession as a result of poor tourist inflow.
If after 50 years of independence the largest minority is viewed
with suspicion it does not augur well for democracy and the
secularist ethos of the country.
