4 Pak. soldiers, eight militants killed
Four Pakistani soldiers and eight militants were killed when the Army retailated in the Uri sector as shelling from across the border in Pallanwalla sector in Jammu continued for second day today.

PM's U.S. visit curtailed
The Prime Minister, Mr. A.B. Vajpayee's visit to the United States next month has been curtailed by two days, and he is now scheduled to leave for New York on September 7 (instead of September 5).

A.P. Govt. rejects demand for enquiry
The Andhra Pradesh Government's refusal to order a judicial enquiry into Monday's incidents, in which police opened fire killing a Congress(I) worker and a CITU activist, was on expected lines, though the enquiry could have provided an opportunity for the Government to prove its allegation about the involvement of extremist elements in the violence.

Houses of Indian mission staff in Pak. ransacked
In a reflection of the worsening relations between India and Pakistan, two separate groups of unidentified persons reportedly barged into the residences of two senior diplomats of the Indian High Commission here this afternoon and ``ransacked'' their belongings in search of ``some papers''.

J&K militants plan strikes during PM's U.S. visit

Law panel chief reappointed
The Cabinet Committee on Appointments has approved the name of Mr. Justice B.P. Jeevan Reddy for re- appointment as chairman of the reconstituted 16th Law Commission for a tenure of three years from September 1. His present term as Chairman of the 15th Law Commission ends on August 31.

Bodies of Pak. soldiers handed over
India today handed over bodies of two Pakistani soldiers who were killed while attempting to capture a forward post in the Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir on August 24.

Pak. may consider import of Indian sugar
Pakistan is considering import of sugar from India to tide over the crisis of shortages, according to the Pakistan Federal Minister for Industries, Mr. Abdul Razzak Dawood.
