Police, sales tax officials attacked
By Our Staff Reporter
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, AUG. 29. A sales-tax official and a policeman
were attacked by a group of supporters of a local trader at
Nedumanagdu while his private finance and automobile consultancy
company at Kallinjan junction was being inspected by a Sales Tax
Intelligence team led by the Deputy Commissioner, Mr. M. K.
Sudhakaran, on Tuesday afternoon.
Police identified the injured persons as Sales Tax Inspector, Mr.
Mohanan, and police constable, Mr. Sanakan. They have been
admitted to the Nedumangadu Taluk hospital. The SI (Nedumangadu),
Mr. L. Thulasidharan, has arrested the owner of Dhanush Auto
Consultancy, Mr. Mohanan, in this connection.
According to the police, the sales tax team had stumbled upon
nine autorickshaws without proper records following an inspection
of the agency's office. After seizing the keys of the vehicles,
the Sales Tax Inspector, Mr. Mohanan, and the constable, Mr.
Sanakan, had proceeded to the house of the finance company owner
to inspect six of the autorickshaws which were parked there.
Police said a gang of persons led by the financier's brother,
Krishnan, attacked the officials at the house and decamped with
the keys and some official records. A case of assault has been
registered.
