Panel to probe 'harassment' of Mahanta's wife
GUWAHATI, AUG. 25. The Assam Government today set up a one-man
committee to inquire into the alleged harassment of Dr. Joyashree
Goswami Mahanta, MP and wife of the Chief Minister, by the CISF
and aviation staff at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi
international airport here on August 20.An official release said
here that the committee, headed by the lower Assam Division
Commissioner, Dr. S. Mitra, would examine whether the wife of the
Chief Minister was entitled for facilities at the airport on par
with the Chief Minister.
The commission would also examine whether the wife of the Chief
Minister was subjected to separate security check in the airport
while accompanying the Chief Minister from the VIP lounge to the
aircraft.
It would further examine if the wife of the Chief Minister while
accompanying the Chief Minister in the same air journey was
entitled to travel in the same vehicle from the airport lounge
departure section to the aircraft.
It would ascertain who was responsible for preventing Dr.
Joyashree Goswami Mahanta from travelling in the car with her
husband from the airport lounge to aircraft.
The commission would submit the report to the Government within
15 days from the date of issue of notification.
