Film industry to continue bandh

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, AUG. 25. The film industry today resolved to continue its on-going bandh till the veteran actor, Mr. Rajkumar, being held hostage by Veerappan, was released.

A meeting of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) resolved against resuming work on films as mark of solidarity with the abducted actor.

According to KFCC sources, those who attended the meeting felt it was inappropriate to resume working when the matinee idol was being held hostage in the forest.

The meeting was attended, among others, by Mr. K.C.N. Chandru, KFCC President, Mr. C.V.L. Shastry, President of the producers' association, Mr. Jo Simon of the directors' association, Mr. J. Jagadish of the artistes' association and Mr. Ashok of the Film Workers' Federation.

Essentials distributed

The Film Workers Federation today distributed rice, sugar, tur dhal and edible oil to nearly 1,000 members.

The film workers -- who include light boys, stuntmen and assistants -- have been passing through a difficult time in view of the film industry bandh.

The federation today distributed rice (10 kg) tur dhal, sugar and cooking oil (one kg each) to the members.

According to Mr. Ashok, President of the federation, nearly 100 kg of rice, which had been procured from a mill in Tiptur, was distributed. The distribution would continue tomorrow. He said there were about 3,000 members belonging to the 14 affiliated unions. He expected that about 2,000 workers and their families who were in distress, would make use of the opportunity.

The emergency fund to which every member contributed about Rs. 100 a month was being used for this purpose, he said.
