3 IPS officers suspended

LUCKNOW, AUG. 23. The Uttar Pradesh Government has ordered
immediate suspension of three IPS officers found guilty of
committing irregularities in the recruitment of police sub-
inspectors in 1991.The recruitments were made on the basis of
written tests.
The recruitments were challenged in the Allahabad High Court and
later in the Supreme Court.
The irregularities were established when the Vigilance department
examined in details the process of recruitment, an official
spokesman said here today.
Among the suspended officers, Mr. P. C. Singh, DIG, was found
guilty of committing mistakes in the counting of marks in the
answer sheets.
Another irregularity by him was that he recruited male SIs in
place of women.
Ms. S. S. Maheshwari, SSP, and Mr. Mahabir Prasad, SP, were found
guilty of wrong totalling and awarding wrong marks to candidates,
the spokesman added.
In all 47 officers were involved in the selection process
involving 522 sub-inspectors. While three officers have been
suspended, 27 others were let off after issuing letters of
warning.
