Corrective steps needed
Sir, - The analysis of Ammu Joseph (TheHindu, August 13) is an
eye-opener to the present developments in many industrial cities,
and in particular of the IT industrial belts.
In view of the exodus of IT specialists to foreign countries,
extremely competitive core industrial sector of communication
technology has been attracting employees paying fabulous salaries
and benefits. This has brought in frustration and resentment
among the highly qualified and experienced professionals in other
fields of management as they receive comparatively a low package.
The different levels of affluence have started showing cracks in
the industrial sector.
There is currently a trend among the youth to flock to IT
subjects which may ultimately bring a vacuum in other fields in
the future. Lured by the promises of attractive job opportunities
in IT sector, many unrecognised training institutions have
mushroomed all over the country, collecting huge fee and the
students find a dismal future in not being able to get absorbed
in the field of expertise, look for an occasion to agitate along
with the already frustrated unemployed and the poorer sections.
They take advantage of every available political issue to vent
their grievance.
It is time some corrective steps were initiated by the CII to
ensure continued availability of trained personnel in all fields
for the healthy industrial growth in the country.
T. Sampath Kumaran,
Newton (U.S.)
