BJP, Cong (I) asked to vacate Govt. bungalows
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, AUG. 23. The Government has asked the BJP and the
Congress (I) to shift their party national headquarters from the
Government bungalows here and move to their own premises within a
specified period in accordance with the new allotment policy
being enforced by it.
After surveying the bungalows occupied by the two parties, it has
been confirmed by the Government that illegal additions have been
made by both the parties - the BJP at 11, Ashoka Road and the
Congress (I) at 24, Akbar Road - by raising illegal structures in
the open areas forming part of the allotted premises. However, it
is silent on initiating action for removal of unauthorised
additions in the two cases.
The confirmation about the illegal structures at the two premises
came during a survey conducted by the New Delhi Municipal Council
which found existence of unauthorised additions. However, a
general survey was also being conducted in respect of such
illegal structures raised by the allottees.
Under the revised new allotment policy, a national recognised
party is entitled to allotment of Government accommodation only
for a maximum period of three years for office purposes. During
these three years, it is supposed to move to its own premises.
For constructing their own building, the recognised parties are
being offered land in institutional areas. The Bharatiya Janata
Party , according official sources, has already requested the
Government for allotment of land for its national headquarters.
The sources said that the period of three years would run from
the date from which the new policy came into effect. Even State
level recognised parties are entitled to allotment of
accommodation for office purposes for a limited period of three
years following which they too would be required to have their
own office premises.
Apart from office accommodation, a national party, under the new
policy, is entitled for allotment of a residential accommodation
for its president in case he or she is not already an allottee
and is not entitled to one otherwise.
