Heavy turnout in Rajasthan civic polls
JAIPUR,, AUG. 20. Polling through electronic voting machines for
municipalities concluded peacefully with heavy turnout amid tight
security in Rajasthan today.
The ruling Congress and the main Opposition Bharatiya Janata
Party fielded 2373 and 2299 candidates respectively. As many as
5060 independents, including 1603 women, are also contesting. The
election was held for 126 of the 129 municipalities in the State.
According to a State Election Commission spokesman, the average
voting was 58.11 per cent till 1500 hrs and the total polling was
expected to reach 75 per cent.
