Workshop on ENT surgeries
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI, AUG. 20. Ten live surgeries of ear and nose with
facility for interacting with the surgeons performing them will
be the highlights of a two-day surgical workshop to be organised
by the Upgraded Institute of Otorhinolaryngology of the Madras
Medical College, beginning August 23.
The Department Director, Dr. N. Radhakrishnan, said the nasal
endoscope offered the ENT surgeon better access in terms of skull
base surgery. Over 350 delegates were expected to attend the
workshop and focus would be on treatment of conductive hearing
loss, ear discharge and endoscopic sinus.
Donors have recently provided the department with three operating
microscopes and an endoscopy unit worth over Rs. 10 lakhs. The
department has also acquired an American software called
``Dr.Speech'' to facilitate analysis and diagnosis of problems
associated with the vocal cords and the larynx. The electroglotto
graph unit, used as an integral component along with the
software, provides graphic images of amplitude and sound levels
of speech.
The Health Minister, Mr. N. Veerasami, will inaugurate the
workshop, according to the organisers.
