Tributes paid to Rajiv Gandhi

NEW DELHI, AUG. 20. The Speaker, Mr. G.M.C. Balayogi, today led
several Ministers and parliamentarians in paying floral tributes
in front of the portrait of the former Prime Minister, Rajiv
Gandhi, in the Central Hall of Parliament today on his 56th birth
anniversary.
Among the senior leaders present were the Leader of the
Opposition and Rajiv Gandhi's widow, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, the Union
Home Minister, Mr. L.K. Advani, the Telugu Desam Party leader,
Mr. Yerran Naidu, the Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman, Ms. Najma
Heptullah, and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Dr.
Manmohan Singh.
The Lok Sabha brought out a booklet with a profile of Rajiv
Gandhi on the occasion and distributed it among the dignitaries.
Rajiv Gandhi's portrait had been unveiled in Central Hall this
day seven years ago.
