The small investor
Sir, - The article ``A tale of two investors'' (The Hindu, August
6) rightly highlights the problems of the small investors. While
the investment in Stock Market carries an element of risk, the
small investors who invested in the rated finance companies
expecting a regular income are the worst hit. The policy makers,
the regulators and the enforcement agencies have abdicated their
responsibilities to this class of investors. This is highly
distressing.
The initiatives taken by the Tamil Nadu Government in organising
monthly meetings with the depositors in the office of the
Commissioner of Police, Chennai, under the aegis of the Economic
Offences Wing (EOW) offered the only ray of hope. The Tamil Nadu
Act to protect the interest of the depositors should also cover
the incorporated companies enabling the special court to handle
the cases of their default.
J. Ramdas,
Chennai
