Varsity land case: two more witnesses examined

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, AUG. 11. The former Registrar of the Kalady
Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Mr. Ramankutty Menon,
was today examined by the prosecution in the Vigilance case
relating to the purchase of land for the University at an
exorbitant rate.
The present secretary of the Attukal Temple Trust, Mr.
Ramachandran Nair, was also examined today. The former Chief
Secretary, Mr. R. Ramachandran Nair, is the first accused in the
case.
The two were among the defence witnesses named by the former
Chief Secretary in a detailed statement filed in the Special
Court here in support of his contention that the investigation
into the case had not been impartial.
Two defence witnesses had been examined by the prosecution on
July 13. The hearings would continue on September 1. The
Vigilance Legal Adviser, Mr. P. P. Saseendran, appeared on behalf
of the prosecution.
