Antony for consensus on organisational issues
By Our Special Correspondent
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, AUG. 11. The Leader of the Opposition, Mr. A.
K. Antony, has dropped hints that he would not take the
initiative to settle the organisational problems of the
Congress(I) in the State. He would rather have these problems
sorted out through dialogues and consensus.
Addressing a meet-the-press programme organised by the Press Club
here, Mr. Antony said: ``The organisational problems were not a
new thing. But these problems are something which cannot be
resolved by one or two leaders. If the issues were within my
control, they would have been sorted out long back. These could
be sorted out only through consensus. I would continue to strive
to bring the issues to a resolution,'' he said. At another
juncture, he said there were several leaders in the party who had
given their sweat and toil and he was not alone in this. Asked if
Mr. K. Muraleedharan was the problem he was referring to, Mr.
Antony said he did not want to go into the specifics of the
affairs. ``I always try to take the path of consensus,'' he
added.
Mr. Antony took consolation from the fact that the current
factional fights were not bitter as in the past. ``It is
significant that at the rival rallies held on August 9 there were
no bitter personal attacks.''
``In any case, the groupism in the Congress(I) was not as bitter
as in the CPI(M). There is going to be a law and order problem in
the CPI(M), with leaders organising group meetings.'' he said.
