Veerappan struck at the ancestral home
The actor, Mr. Rajkumar, frequented his birthplace, Gajanur in Tamil Nadu, to spend a few days in his ancestral house there. On Friday, the actor and his wife, Ms. Parvathamma, arrived in the village to supervise the installation of a pumpset in a newly-sunk borewell.

Krishna, Karunanidhi discuss strategy
The crisis-management scene, following the kidnapping of the Kannada film star, Dr. Rajkumar and three others, by the forest brigand, Veerappan, shifted to Chennai this afternoon with the Karnataka Chief Minister, Mr. S. M. Krishna, arriving for consultations and Tamil Nadu agreeing to send an emissary to meet the outlaw.

Nakkeeran editor, emissary
The editor of the Tamil bi-weekly Nakkeeran, Mr. R. R. Gopal, will leave here tonight to meet Veerappan as the emissary of both the Tamil Nadu and Karnataka Governments, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Mr. M. Karunanidhi, said this evening after a meeting with the Union Tourism and Culture Minister, Mr. Ananth Kumar.

6 armymen killed in rocket attack
After the ceasefire offer made by the Hizbul Mujahideen, other militant groups today intensified their attacks on the security forces, killing six armymen and one policeman in two separate incidents. Twelve others were wounded, the police said.

Jethmalani not allowed to make statement in RS

The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, on Monday insisted on holding an open and unconditional dialogue with the Hizbul Mujahideen and hoped that the other groups would soon realise the futility of the gun and come forward to participate in the peace process.
