PM calls on President

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, JULY 10. The Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee called on the President, Mr. K.R.Narayanan, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan this morning.

Though the visit was described as ``routine'' by both the sides, it is believed that the Prime Minister briefed the President about his recent visit to Italy and Portugal.

However, since the meeting took place in the context of the raging ``autonomy'' for Jammu and Kashmir controversy, it is presumed that Mr. Vajpayee brought the President up to date on the latest situation.

The President is organising a Governors' conference at the Rashtrapati Bhavan later this week, which would be attended by the Prime Minister and his Cabinet colleagues as well.
